“Grandma Got Run over by a Reindeer”….are we covered?

untitledWith the Holidays quickly approaching we all know the stress of finding that perfect present, wrapping, decorations and a million other things that need to get done. So, after all the planning is done we can relax and have fun at all the Christmas parties to come. While the sugar plums dance in your head there maybe something you are forgetting.

Host liquor liability, by definition, is “a social host’s liability to a person injured or property damaged by an intoxicated guest’s negligent operation of a motor vehicle or watercraft where a social host who knew or should have known that his or her guest was intoxicated and nevertheless gave them or permitted them to consume an alcoholic drink and thereafter, because of his or her intoxication, the guest negligently operated a motor vehicle or watercraft causing “bodily injury” or “property damage”.

In basic terms, if you are “Rocking the Night Away” and one of your co-workers has a bit too much to drink. He then says that he if fine to drive home and on the way home he injures someone with his vehicle. That injured person can sue you for letting your co-worker go. Host Liquor Liability will protect you if this is to happen and can be added to a current homeowners policy for a minimal cost.

As the host you are responsible for all of your guests when you are serving alcohol. If they leave and injure someone or someone’s property then you can be found liable. We at Quincy Insurance Agency want you to have a “Silent Night” and a happy holiday. So, if you are planning a party and would like to discuss your options of Holst Liquor Liability, please give us a call.
