Watercraft Insurance

Coverage for your Watercraft could be written in several ways depending on
the size of the boat, the horsepower and speed of the engines as well as its
use and value.  The boat can be endorsed onto a homeowner policy to provide limited property protection for the boat and/or liability.  When added to the homeowner policy the coverage provided is for the policyholder and family only.  This coverage can be adequate for smaller boats such as sail boats or powerboats with a small or no engine.  For more comprehensive coverage a several types of Watercraft policies can be obtained.

Boat Owner Policy, for a boat 26' long or less.   This is a package type
policy to protect against damage to the boat by covered perils and liability
protection, if the insured is held legally liable for bodily injury or
property damage to others arising out of the boats operation, maintenance or use.  Property losses are settled on a ACV basis subject to a deductible. Credits can be applied based on boat training and the type of safety equipment on board the boat.

Yacht Policy, for a boat 26' or longer.  Also a package type policy providing
coverage for the boat, motors, dinghies, navigational equipment and other
equipment used for the operation or maintenance of the boat as well as
liability.  These policies typically have a certain navigational area
specified.  Here in New England it would be Coastal/North Atlantic or
Inland/New England.  If the ship went back and forth to the Bahamas, that
territory would need to be added.

If you have a Jet ski it needs to be written as a Personal Watercraft Policy
